Understanding Children’s Risk and Agency in Urban Areas and their Implications for Child Centred Urban Disaster Risk Reduction in Asia

This report documents the findings of a study by IIED and Plan which involved discussions with local, national and international agencies, street children, working children and children living in slums in Dhaka, Kathmandu, Manila and Jakarta.

The findings show that children who live and work on the streets are among the most vulnerable to disasters and climate change. Yet, the majority of disaster risk reduction programmes in urban areas fail to address the particular risks facing boys and girls.

Read the report to find out more, hear children's views on disasters in urban environments - and see what can be done to improve the situation.
